 Super-heroes, upon meeting, tend to immediately team-up (Justice League and Justice Society) or immediately fight (Human Torch and Sub-Mariner) Any one of the HU members presently could probably take MM down in a fight, powered armor or no. (Which gives her strength in Spider-Man's range.) So...she uses them against each other. The field mentioned therein is not a spur-of-the-moment thing, but one of her principle defenses, the VRF field, explained here.
